When most people think of wood countertops, their thoughts immediately go to traditional “butcher block” and assume that if the top is wood, it can be used as one big cutting board, but not all wood tops are created equally.
If you’re considering butcher block for your project or just want to learn more, keep on reading, and we’ll tell you all about this beautiful surface option!
WHAT ARE CARIBOU BLOCK COUNTERTOPS?
Traditional butcher block is typically made from a variety of different sized pieces of wood, or “sticks”, which are glued together together to form a slab. How is Caribou Block different?
Caribou slabs are made entirely of North American hardwoods. Each slab is handcrafted with full-length pieces of wood, with no small blocks or joints to affect the aesthetic or the structure of the slab. Caribou also uses a proprietary gluing technology to give your countertops a drier core and a better bond, dramatically limiting failure due to warping.
AVAILABLE COLORS
Caribou is available in five different wood species, and seven different colors, providing you with options that will blend perfectly with any décor style.

Caribou Block can be used on a large variety of applications, not just countertops. Caribou can be customized to to be used on shelving, work benches, mantels, tables and more.
SUSTAINABILITY

CARIBOU BLOCK CARE & MAINTENANCE
Traditional butcher block requires a fair amount of maintenance to keep the surface safe for food and resistant to warping and cracking. Since butcher block is typically used as a cutting surface, you will regularly need to treat your surface with mineral oil and occasionally sand the top to preserve it for years to come.
Caribou Block is not designed to be used as a cutting board. While it is wood and will take a knife’s edge the same way as butcher block, you will want to avoid cutting on your Caribou top, unless you want it to look like a well used cutting board. We recommend protecting your surface by always using a cutting board. Our wood tops are maintenance free and clean up requires a simple vinegar and water mix, or you can use soap and water You will want to avoid harsh chemicals to avoid damaging the surface.
