Find the Right Countertops for Your Home

Lakeside Surfaces offers the four most popular countertop materials: granite, porcelain, wood, and quartz. In each category, we have a range of colors and prices. So, how can you tell which is right for you? Here are the top benefits and qualities of each material.

Granite Countertops

Granite is a natural stone with beautiful marbling and a hefty price tag compared to some other materials. However, the value it adds to your home is worth the initial price. Additionally, if you properly care for granite, it can last decades, which means no replacement expenses down the road.

However, due to its natural origins, granite is porous and therefore can stain. Of course, you can avoid this issue by sealing granite, making it stain-proof, protected from bacteria, and easy to clean.

Porcelain Countertops

Since porcelain is glazed, there’s no need for sealing. It’s impervious to bacteria and staining right out of the kiln, making it an excellent choice for both bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, porcelain countertops come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, allowing you to transform your counters into works of art.

While porcelain is fairly durable and can last for years, it’s not indestructible. A hard impact from a pan or meat tenderizer can chip the surface, and repair isn’t necessarily easy; porcelain chips can be very challenging to repair because the pattern is only on the top, and since repairs will be a solid color, it can be very noticeable, depending on the pattern.

Wood Countertops

Wood countertops and butcher blocks are great options for country or cottage-core designs. Wood countertops add warmth and beauty to a space that cannot be achieved with another surface. Caribou block is maintenance-free and requires no special upkeep, making it an excellent option for kitchen countertops.

Quartz Countertops

One of the most popular choices for countertops, quartz combines the best characteristics of natural stone and synthetic options such as laminate. As a manufactured material, it’s non-porous and therefore requires no sealing. It’s sanitary, easy to clean, and incredibly durable.

At the same time, it comes in beautiful colors and marbling reminiscent of natural stone. If you’re interested in the elegance of marble but don’t want the high cost, quartz is an excellent alternative.
